Wordless Wednesday: Silly, smiling dog photos!

Pug smiling with his tiny turtle toy
I'm happy the cooler weather is here. I think the dogs are, too. As snub-nosed breeds, Liam the pug and Sinead the Boston terrier can struggle to breathe when the air gets hot (and they don't like air polluted by forest fire smoke, either). That means Liam and Sinead have both spent much of the summer breathing through their open mouths.

Some would call this "panting." But it also tends to look a lot like smiling. See?

Liam pretty much has this look mastered.

Is this pug smiling or panting? Hard to tell

Sinead doesn't do this as often, and sometimes, she looks a little demonic when she smiles. I think it's the pinned back ears.

But I suppose it's better than the other look she gives me quite often: The epic Boston stink eye.

Yikes! Bring back the smiles!

  2. I think it's just so sad that because of being bred for snub-noses that the dogs are then unable to breath and regulate their bodies properly....
The smiling pictures are adorable :) Happy Wordless Wednesday!

    1. Well put. There's a lot we can do with nare surgeries and palette corrections, but they would do so much better with long noses, it's true.
