Wordless Wednesday: The trouble with walking a dog

Dog walk trouble
We are celebrating Dog Walking Week 2015, which means we're walking a little more than 2 miles every day. (More about that right here.) When we are actually moving, Sinead is as happy as a clam. (Although she does look suspicious right here.)

But there's one problem. And it's a big one.

She guilt trips us when we prepare her for the walk.

Here's what she looks like when she knows it's time to head out.

Boston pulling a guilt trip

And here's how she looks when we put on the harness. What you can't see is the quaking and shivering. She does that, too.

Boston terrier does not want to walk

I can't figure it out. If I give in and leave her home, she whimpers by the door until I come back. So I know she likes the walk. But she seems to think that looking pathetic is a mandatory part of the prep. Even cookies can't make her stop.

Silly goose.

That's it for this Wordless Wednesday! Don't forget to leave a comment, so I'll know you were here. And do visit some of the other posts this week!

  1. Chuy loves going on walks but always runs all over the house when he knows it's time to go. It's so weird!

    1. Twinsie behavior! (Although I think I'd take running over the pouting I have going on here...)

  2. Aw, I wonder why she does that. Do you think she loves the walk but doesn't like the harness maybe?

    1. I tried swapping the harness for a different shape, and that didn't help. And she shirks just as much when we walk her with her coat, which has snaps for a leash so she doesn't need a harness.... I can't figure it out!

  3. My boys love going for walks, but the little one hates being on a leash and walks sideways :-/

    1. Ah, the crab walk. My pug used to do that :)

  4. Perhaps she’s thinking she’s going to the evil vet? I thought dogs liked to go on walks. Could there be a bully dog she doesn’t want to see?

    1. We're relatively bully free out here.... It could be that she's worried about where we'll take her, though, for sure. She can be a little anxious in the wider world...

  6. Hi Y'all!

Does she have any doggie neighbors she likes who could come visit while she gets her harness and then walk along with y'all? Or, if she doesn't pull, try just attachin' the lead to her collar and see what the reaction is.

    Y'all come on back,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

    1. Howdy! Great idea, but Sinead is a bit of a dog hater. She really dislikes most of the dogs near us. But there is a dog she likes: A hot dog! Maybe I need to incorporate better treats like that into the mix when we walk. Thanks for the idea!

  7. So funny to see the different reactions of each dog which clearly shows that they each have their own individual personality.

  8. Maybe cheese would help? It works for our nervous dogs. :)
Love her expression in the first 2 pics, she looks so suspicious!

  9. There's just something about harnesses with some dogs. My late beagle Kobi LOVED to walk, but he hated having his harness put on every single time. You would think they know what the end result is going to be, and get excited about having their harnesses put on. But even my current dogs, with the exception of Luke, don't really like having their harnesses put on.

    1. Hmmmm. That's a good point. Maybe she just hates the suiting up part!
