A special dog birthday party for Sinead (She's 3 years old!)

Sinead is all dressed up for her dog birthday party
This weekend, little Sinead the Boston terrier turned 3. It's funny how quickly the time flies by. It seems like just yesterday that she was a wee little puppy, getting bullied by her bigger pug brother. Now, she's not that much bigger, but she definitely isn't the one being bullied. Often, the is the one handing out the corrections!

Anyway, I always celebrate dog birthdays in this household (here's what I did for Liam's birthday this summer, for example).

But I wanted to do something a little special for Sinead this year, and I got a great idea from Good Housekeeping.

First, I got everyone dressed up for photos and the big giving-of-the-gift moment.

Liam and Sinead are ready for a dog party

That tiny pig is Sinead's birthday gift. And it does have special significance, as her official name from her breeder was "Princess Piggy." A honking pig seemed apt. And she does really love it.

But once the photos were done, we were ready for the good stuff: Pupcakes!

A few months back, Good Housekeeping provided a recipe from this blog. These dog treats, or "pupcakes," are made with peanut butter, carrot, honey, flour and a few other trace ingredients. And they're topped with more peanut butter and cream cheese.

The original recipe called for a bacon dog treat topper, but I used a homemade dog cookie instead. And I also cut the recipe in half, so we wouldn't be drowning in cupcakes for the entire winter.

As it turns out, the dogs really love these treats. And (bonus), they're people-pleasers, too. These snacks are sweet, light and pretty darn tasty. So hubby and I had one or two to celebrate Sinead's birthday, too.

All in all, this was a great day. And that recipe is a keeper! Hope you (and your dogs) enjoy it, too.

    1. I love that quilt. It's a little bold, I grant you, but it does work as a girly dog backdrop!
