Sunday cat selfies: Getting away from the noisy foster kittens

Managing a multi-cat household often means providing quiet getaway spaces that can accommodate just one cat at a time. Cats can use these escape hatches to get away from the hustle and bustle of a rowdy neighbor, and since the spaces are small, cats can rest assured that the loud ones cannot or will not follow along.

Maggie the cat has been spending a lot of time in her favorite getaway spot this week, as the Menagerie is hosting three foster kittens who are small and very LOUD (more on that in a minute). I thought sweet Maggie might help me to talk about them for this Sunday Selfies series by The Cat on My Head. So here goes!

Maggie is closing in on 13 years old, and she really likes routine. She likes to eat at a certain time in a certain place, play with specific toys at a specific time, and head to bed right on time in her perfect cat bed. The kittens do not interact with Maggie directly, as we're considering them under quarantine for another 2 weeks or so when they can be tested for FELV/FIV, but Maggie can sure hear them. And she can see me bustling about to care for the kittens.

She is not a fan of these kittens. She's mad enough, in fact, that she is spending almost all of her time in her getaway.

Reassuring her is relatively easy. She's been getting more treats and more focused play sessions, and I've been taking the time to cuddle her in quiet rooms far from kitten screaming. With that patient attention, I am sure she'll learn to adjust to the kitten crazies.

But meanwhile, isn't she pretty? And she posed so nicely for her selfie.

Are you ready to see the kittens? Of course you are.

There are three in this litter, and they were found on the playground of a local school. It is likely that momma was nearby and caring for the kittens, as they were not dehydrated nor underfed. But the kids intervened anyway, and the tinies have come here for feeding and supervision. They're a little older than 5 weeks.

This is the one lone girl in the mix. We're calling her Kathleen, and despite my best efforts, she is almost always covered in food. It's hard to get her long hair clean! But she does pose nicely for selfies.

Next up is Fergus. He's going to be a gorgeous boy when he grows, as he has very long, smoke-patterned hair and lilac tips. He's the most loving cat in the bunch, as he is always seeking out either me or his siblings for love.

Want to see more kitten shots? These guys played a major role in Wednesday's post. Check that out. And I'll be featuring them here as they grow. They'll be with me for about a month.

Thanks for looking! Do leave me a note so I'll know you were here. And be sure to check out the other blogs in the hop!
